The book has been released

Our anticipation has been running pretty high during September. First, unexpectedly, we received some copies of the paperback cover in the mail. That meant that Missing Mila, Finding Family was actually “in production.”  Then, I noticed last week that my credit card had been charged for the copies I had pre-ordered in July.  Today, Monday, October 3, the UPS truck drove up and unloaded three 40-pound cartons of books in our driveway. Tom and I were there to greet the driver. He wanted to know what he was delivering, and we told him. He seemed interested in the story, too. Tom and I  could hardly wait to open up the cartons and hold the finished book in our hands for the first time. The design department at the press did a wonderful job.

This means the months of waiting are finally over, in fact the book is out nearly a month ahead of schedule.  Now, when you order it through the press,  it  should be filled immediately. That is until the first edition runs out.  So don’t wait any longer!

  1. Just started reading the book. It’s so touching and gives me insight on my own adoption from El Salvador. It brings up  a lot of emotions and questions I have about my own adoption. As I am reading I can relate to some of your emmotions and feelings growing up as an adoptee. Your family did an amazing job on the book.

    • Derek,

Great to gear from you again. I’m glad you are enjoying the book. If there is anything I can help you with please let me know.

PS You may have noticed by now but you spell your name the same way as my brother!

      All the best

      • Nelson,

Thanks for writing back, I am indeed enjoying the book and just admire how you handled the whole situation and find it amazing how your adoptive family and biological family have blended into one. I feel that is how it should be and Ihjope I can share a story of my own one day. Take care- Derek

  2. Hi Derek,

So glad to know that the book is meaningful to you personally. It was a labor of loveon my part, bt I cou;d not have written it without the help of all the family members. It means a lot to me to know that other adoptees like you are reading it. It is nice that your name is the same as Nelson’s brother. Also the man who did the design work for the cover at the press has the same name Derek. Nice!   Best to you,  Margaret

    • Growing up in western Mass. I would dream and think about  other adoptees such as myself and what their stories might be like. I hope that one day I will have a story of my own that I can share as well. I just want to say once again, that your book is so inspiring. -Derek
